Nariwa District - Brief Description

A good way to understand what industrialization translated into in 19th century rural Japan is to stop by Fukiya, a mining village hidden in the mountains that once thrived by selling copper and bengara red mineral pigments to the whole country. A tranquil life has taken over nowadays but you still feel how vibrantly this small mountain town bustled by touring around the glorious residences and merchants' houses.

Art lovers should not miss visiting Nariwa Art Museum, designed by the famous architect Ando Tadao, and all should squeeze in the crowd gathering to admire the fireworks during the summer festival season.
